Minor Bantam

A tough matchup to start ended up being costly for the North Bay & District Hopper Buick/GMC Trappers as they travelled to Kitchener for the Blue Line Tournament.

In the opener, the Trappers fell 5-1 to the Don Mills Flyers.  Jesse Lefebvre had the lone goal in the opening day loss.

The Trappers then battled to a 2-2 tie Friday evening against Cambridge.  Lefebvre and Nate Gravelle had the goals in the tie.

On Saturday morning, the Trappers got their first victory of the weekend thanks to a tight 3-2 win over the Oshawa Generals.  Mathieu Turgeon led the way with two goals while Heath Bradley had the other.

In their fourth game, Trappers affiliate Callum McCauley scored 12 seconds into the game and that would be all the offence the Trappers needed in a convincing 6-0 victory over Chatham-Kent.  Masen Wray had two goals with singles going to Zach Major, Austin Odd, and Lefebvre.

Even with the 2-1-1 record, the Trappers did not make the playoff round as Don Mills moved on from their group and eventually won the Minor Bantam AAA portion of the tournament.

The Trappers are back on the ice Wednesday night as they face the Nickel City Sons in a rare mid-week game in Verner. Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m.

Major Peewee

The North Bay & District major peewee AAA Trappers also travelled to Kitchener to participate in the Kitchener Blue Line Tournament.

The Trappers opened the tourney with a 7-2 setback at the hands of the Markham Waxers.  Briir Long and Andre Mondoux had the goals in the opening game loss.

In their second game, they faced the highly ranked Upper Canada Cyclones.  Thanks to some solid goaltending by Owen Heroux, the Trappers were able to escape with a 2-2 tie.  Brant Romaniuk and Andre Mondoux supplied the scoring in the deadlock.

On Saturday morning, the Trappers got their first win with a 5-3 victory over the Ottawa Valley Titans. That game was highlighted by a huge diving glove save by Trappers netminder Jackson Curran which kept the score at 3-1 Trappers.

Simon Toupin, Duquette, Long, Romaniuk, and Mondoux had the goals in the win to give the Trappers a 1-1-1 record after three games.

On Saturday evening the host Rangers spoiled a playoff hope for the Trappers by edging them 3-0.

The major peewees are back on the ice November 23 and 24 when they host the visiting Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.

Minor Peewee

The minor peewee Trappers opened the Big Nickel tournament against the Kanata Blazers.  The Trappers were first on the board with a goal from Hugh Bouley in the first, after Cameron Lockhart generated an aggressive forecheck.  Their lead remained until the third period, where the Blazers scored 2 unanswered goals to take the lead.  After a third empty net point, the game ended with a 3-1 loss for the Trappers.

Game two found the Trappers up against the Soo Greyhounds. The Trappers were not able to find the net, losing 8-0.

The Grey-Bruce Highlanders were up against the Trappers for game 3. The Trappers pulled ahead early in the game with a goal from forward Jason Synnott, assisted by linemates Cameron McGeachy and Ben Brunton.  In the second, Brunton lit the lamp again to widen the gap.  Grey-Bruce took control in the third, scoring 5 unanswered goals to end the game.

Game 4 found the Trappers looking for a win against the Nickel City Sons.  Nickel City pulled ahead by 2 points in the first.  The Trappers kept control of the play in the second but were not able to find the net. The game ended with 3 more unanswered goals by the Sons.

Nickel City will visit North Bay for league play this weekend.
