The North Bay & District Hopper Buick/GMC Minor Bantam AAA Trappers came away with only one point in a three-game set in Powassan over the weekend against the first-place Nickel City Sons.

On Saturday morning, the Sons edged the Trappers 4-3. Ayden Thomason, Jesse Lefebvre and Mathieu Turgeon scored in the setback.

Saturday night the Trappers built up a 2-0 lead after two periods, but the Sons battled back with two goals as the game finished in a 2-2 tie.  Mathieu Turgeon scored and Masen Wray tallied on a penalty shot for the Trappers in the tie.

On Sunday morning, the Sons took the weekend series with a 5-2 victory. Turgeon and Davis Anello had the goals in the setback.

The Sons and Trappers clash again on the weekend as the Trappers meet the Sons in Chelmsford at 3 p.m. on Saturday and then at home in Sturgeon Falls at 10 a.m. on Sunday.

Minor Peewee

Steve’s Premier Pizza’s Minor Peewee AAA Trappers met up with the Nickel City Sons on the weekend for a three-game set.  Game one found the Trappers scoreless with a 2-0 loss.

Goaltender Terry Bradley was at the top of his game, keeping the score close and looking for a win.

The second contest resulted in a 6-1 loss with Ben Brunton scoring the lone goal, assisted by teammate Cam Lockhart.  The Trappers found themselves down by one early in game three. Brunton scored to tie it up with an unassisted, short-handed goal.

The Sons answered back before Brunton scored his third of the weekend to tie it up again. Michael Dech was credited with an assist as he made a great pass to Brunton at the side of the net.

The Sons bit back four more times to end the game 6-2.

This hard-working crew continues to close the gap against their opponents as they head into a break.

The Trappers travel to the Soo in February to wrap up their regular season play.
