Tough start to the Great North Midget League season for Trappers' teams

U18 Trappers fall to Cubs while U16 Trappers lose in regulation and OT to the Caps

The North Bay & District U18 and U16 AAA Trappers teams were winless during the first weekend of play in the Great North Midget League season. 

On Saturday night the North Bay U18 AAA Trappers opened the year against the New Liskeard Cubs. 

The Cubs built up a lead and held on for a 5-3 win over the Trappers. 

Will Bourre, Cam MacDonald, and Aiden Lucier had the goals for the Trappers in the loss. 

Meantime, the U16 AAA Trappers hosted the Sudbury U16 AAA Nickel Capitals for a pair of contests at the Powassan Sportsplex over the weekend. 

On Saturday, the Nickel Capitals scored twice in the third period breaking a 3-3 tie as they defeated the Trappers 5-3 in front of a good crowd in Powassan for the season opener. 

Masen Wray scored twice for the Trappers, while Caleb Dawson netted a shorthanded tally in the second period. Mikey Purkhart took the loss in goal for North Bay.    

On Sunday afternoon, Nolan Newton scored early in 3 on 3 overtime to give the Nickel Capitals a 3-2 win.   

Anthony Boyes and Ayden Thomason had the goals for the Trappers who had built up a 2-0 lead after two periods of play. Kaleb Papineau suffered the loss in goal for the Trappers. 

The U16 AAA Trappers are back on the ice next weekend as they host a pair of games against the U18 AAA Soo Greyhounds. 

Meantime, the U18 AAA Trappers next action is Saturday, October 30 when they travel west to face the U18 AAA Greyhounds.
