Titans start 2013 with 2 home wins

The Temiscaming Titans started the new year in the same way they finished the previous year, by winning.
The Temiscaming Titans started the new year in the same way they finished the previous year, by winning. The Titans opened up the second half of their GMHL season with a couple of home games on Friday against the Bracebridge Phantoms and then a Sunday afternoon tilt with the Powassan Eagles.

On Friday evening the Titans dominated the scoreboard with a 7-1 victory.

The Titans BBK line as their known, Begin, Beauregard & Katapaytuk continued their mastery of puck control and combined for a total of 13 points. Byron Katapaytuk and Francis Beauregard led the way with a pair of goals and added 3 assists and 2 assists respectively.

While linemate Marc-Alain Begin had one goal and 3 helpers. Ryder Murray and RIchard Abbott had the other Titans goals. The lone goal to beat Titans netminder Aaron Boyce was by Demitri Fillipolov.

Boyce faced 42 shots and collected his 12th victory of the year.

Mick Stuart faced 48 shots and suffered the loss.

The 3 stars were Francis Beauregard, Marc-Alain Begin and Aaron Boyce.

On Sunday afternoon the Titans welcomed the Powassan Eagles to the new year with a 7-4 victory.

The trio of Begin, Beauregard and Katapaytuk led the attack for the Titans with 12 points between them. Begin led the way with a four goal performance. Francis Bearegard had four assists while Byron Katapaytuk chipped in with a goal and three assists. Justin Norris, Drew Moffat had the other markers for the Titans. Dan Vlach had a pair while Lukas Kancy and Pat Lobl had the other Eagles goals.

The Titans scored on their first two shots sending starting goaltender Petr Heinisch to the bench and relieved by Vald Hak. Hak took the loss as he faced a total of 49 Titans shots. Titans starter Jonathan Goulet took the win facing 37 shots.

The 3 stars were Marc-Alain Begin, Byron Katapaytuk and Nicolas Fournier.

During the second intermission, local resident Richard Miness Sr. won $2000.00 on the Promutuel Shoot the puck contest. At every home game this season, 3 lucky fans are chosen at random from the attendance and all three are given a chance to shoot the puck from centre ice and put in a small hole covering the net. This was the second winner of the season.

The Titans next home game will be Friday, January 11th against the Mattawa Voyageurs. Game time is 7:30pm
