Some North Bay Titans swimmers recorded some fast and encouraging times recently in Sudbury.

Thirty-one Titans swimmers took part in the first Northeast (NEOR) development meet of the season November 2-3 at the Jeno Tihanyi pool at Laurentian University.

Officials with the team say one pleasant surprise was the Titans ranked third out of the 15 teams, when looking at first-place finishes.

Three Titans also swam a 'TOP 3' time in the team's history, with congratulations to Owen Baas (11), Julia Rivet (12) and Jenna Wall (15).

"Swimmers were pretty tired for this competition and didn't wear racing suits, despite this the swimmers really stood up and raced well," says Head Coach John Mcleod, pointing out it's a huge improvement over last year. "We have a strong group of 12 & Under swimmers in our club and this resurgence we are experiencing will likely grow because of our strong base."

Eleven more Titans took part in this event, compared to last year, signalling growth with the local swim team.

Mcleod, the Titans new head coach, also has a new philosophy of swimmers racing every event this year and not just focusing on their favourites.

Because of that 29 of the 31 swimmers registered best times, which is also a huge improvement from last season.

He says the Titans are adjusting really well to this philosophy.

The team is now preparing for a swim meet in Montreal at the end of the month, where they will race some of the fastest swimmers in Canada.

"It'll be big test for some swimmers, who will then compete again the following weekend, here in North Bay," says Mcleod.

The recent Sudbury event marked the official start to the racing season, in this an Olympic year.

"With the Olympics happening this year, and one of our Titans' swimmers already qualified for Olympic Trials, this will be a very exciting season," he says.

Jenna Wall is qualified in two events, 100m breaststroke and 200m breaststroke.

Mcleod also says watch for the Titans in the community.

"Upcoming events where you will see our Titans include the Santa Claus Parade and a clinic with former Olympian and Titan Dominique Bouchard in January," he added.
