Titans make a splash at Team Champs

A selected group of 30 North Bay Titans swimmers ranging in age from 9 to 21, participated in the annual Division 2 Team Championships in Sudbury last weekend.
A selected group of 30 North Bay Titans swimmers ranging in age from 9 to 21, participated in the annual Division 2 Team Championships in Sudbury last weekend.

The points-based style swim meet gathered teams from all over Northern and Southern Ontario as they swam in the 3-day event at Laurentian University. With 17 total teams in attendance, the North Bay Titans proved to be successful finishing the meet in 8th place overall.

Ryan Tom and Grace Liritzis both brought home top honors for the Titans. Tom swam an impressive best time of 1:32.26 to claim top spot in the boys 10 and under 100m individual medley while Lirizis also swam a best time of 2:37.46 in the girls 13-14 age group 200m butterfly earning her a gold medal. Both swimmers also brought home silver medals. Tom came second in the 50m backstroke, 50m butterfly and the 200IM events. Liritzis swam to a silver in the 100m butterfly.

Second place finishes also went to Brittany Pask, Jeremy Sallie, Steve Cholette and Zeyana Laplante.

Bronze medals were earned by Cholette, Pask, Laplante, Ryan Tom, Megan Tom, Dylan Jackson, Renee Gagnon and Keltan Baran.

Top 8 Titans swimmers aged 13 and over participating in finals on Saturday and Sunday night were Katie Tripp, Anisha Bhattacharyya, Jacob Brost, Sydney Hughes, Noah Swain, Jesse Hives, Katelynn Hitchcock, Connor Montgomery, Jeremy Sallie, Steve Cholette, Brittany Pask, Dylan Jackson, Zeyana Laplante, Grace Liritizis, Renee Gagnon, and Keltan Baran.

Personal best times were achieved by Julie Jonescu, Aliya Marsh, Leah Dawson, Sofia Berardi, Quinn Schroeder, Abbey Krajc, Olivia Gagnon, Chloe Hunt, Caitlyn Jones, Hailey Passmore, Talia Preston

The Titans will take a well deserved couple of weeks off and next see action in January 2013 as they participate in the Northeast Ontario Region Developmental #3 meet and the Ontario Cup in Toronto.
