Thunderbirds compete in Windsor and North Bay

CT33 Thunderbird swim team members competed at two separate events this past weekend. Swimmers Trael Daly Stevens, 15, Evan Kilroy, 16 and Jenna Wall, 14 competed at the 2018 Speedo Eastern Canadian Championships April 12-15th in Windsor, Ontario. This long course event was hosted by Swimming Canada and the Windsor Aquatic Club at the International Aquatic and Training Centre in Windsor, Ontario.   

Daly Stevens qualified for and competed in seven events over the course of four days. His performance in the 200 metre and 100 m Free events earned him club records.

Evan Kilroy, 16, qualified for two events, making it to the finals for the 100 m Breast event, landing him a club record. Jenna Wall, 14, qualified and competed in the 200 m Breast event.

Kilroy and Wall traveled back to North Bay to compete with the rest of their teammates at the North Bay Invitational Meet April 13-15that the North Bay YMCA. This short course event was hosted by the North Bay Y Titans.

CT33 Thunderbirds earned the High Point Award for Large Team. As individual swimmers competing in the Iron Man events, Jesse Hammond, 15, Sam Denomme, 14, Ayden Michaud, 14 won high point awards in their respective age categories. In the Sprint events, Evan Kilroy, 15, and Jenna Wall, 14 won the High Point Award while Sheldon Kilroy,14 and Noah Papatheodorou, 14 tied for High Point Award in their age categories.

Evan Kilroy, had eight first-place finishes while Ayden Michaud, 14 and Jenna Wall, 14 both earned five first-place finishes.

Other swimmers with first-place finishes were Jesse Hammond, Noah Papatheodorou, Sheldon Kilroy, Cole Paralovos, 16, Gavin Wall, 12, Emilia Lainevool, 14, Peyton Paralovos, 12 and Olivia Trottier, 15.

Swimmers with top 3 finishes were Timothy Corbeil, 12, Michael Denomme, 18, Sam Denomme, 14, Leah Chirico, 15, Sophie Durocher, 10, Jillian O’Donnell, 15, Rachelle Ouellette, 14, Jaiden Paralovos, 14, Ryleigh Paralovos, 10, Riley Periard, 13, Madilyn Reaume, 11 and Madeline Tanner, 16.

Top six finishers included Albert Bouley, 11, Drew Sinclair, 13, Sydney Doidge, 13 and Isabella Trottier, 9.

Men’s relay teams were awarded 5 first place finishes while the women’s relay teams captured 3 first place finishes at the event.

Club records were also broken at this event. Jesse Hammond broke club records in the 1500m, 800m and 400m Free events as well as the 400m Medley. Evan Kilroy broke club records in the 50m and 100 m Breast events while Sam Denomme broke club record for 1500m Free event in his age category.

Personal bests times were achieved by most swimmers with special mention to Myles Denomme, 11, Abigail Betsill, 11, Grace Hong,12 and Annika Lainevool, 14.

Thunderbird swimmers continue to train this week in preparation for the Sudbury Spring Invitation April 21stto 22nd.

North Bay coaches Pierre Simard, Penny Lecour, Hillar Lainevool and Jennifer Piper said they were pleased with the results from both meets and the success and growth of all swimmers.
