With only 2 weeks left in the Greater Metro Junior 'A' Hockey League regular season, the Temiscaming Titans played two games over the weekend leaving them with only 5 games to play before the playoffs begin.

The weekend got off on a good foot as the Titans handled the Lefroy Wave 10-4 on Friday evening at the Centre.

The game didn't start exactly the way the Titans faithful were anticipating as the Wave scored on their first shot on goal, a goal by Justin Dueck.

The rest of the period was, to say the least very disorganized hockey by both teams. But at 16:02 Cam Moffat's goal got the crowd back into the game. This goal also seemed to lift the Titans out of the doldrums and finished the period strong, outshooting the Wave 16-8.

The second saw the Titans score 3 goals in a span of 55 seconds, Justin Norris on a power play, then the teams Scottish duo of Ryan Adams and Elliot Willetts scored to give the home team a quick 4-1 lead.

The Wave's Neil Burgess reduced the lead to two with a goal at 9:30. Then the Wave pulled within a goal when Justin Huard put one by Titans netminder Seth Fry to make it 4-3 Titans.

Titans head coach Andre Laperierre then made a goaltender switch putting in Simon Gaudet with about 6 minutes to play in the second.

Francis Beauregard then restored the two-goal cushion with a goal at 16:55. The period ended 5-3 in favour of the Titans.

The final period started off with the Wave getting another power play goal on a deflection by Steven Martin making it 5-4. But the quick strike capability of the Titans became apparent with 2 goals in 45 seconds by Beauregard and Marc-Alain Begin to bring the score up to 7-4.

A nice shorthanded effort by Ryan Adams on a breakaway made it 8-4. This was followed by another set of quick markers by Beauregard with his third and Cam Moffat with his second to make the final 10-4.

Shots were 53-26 in favour of the Titans. The 3 stars were Beauregard, Begin & Norris.

Titans fall to Titans

Saturday, the Titans travelled down to Powassan to take on the Eagles.

The score of the game was 4-1 for Powassan.

The Eagles have now won three games this season against the Titans.

Justin Norris had the lone Titans goal.

Lukas Krucky had three goals while Jakub Kulhanek had the other. Titans were outshot 32-30.

Titans back on ice Friday

The Titans next game is Friday, February 8th in Sturgeon Falls and they then return to the Centre for a Saturday night tilt against Mattawa, game time is 7:30pm.
