The Temiscaming Titans were crowned Greater Metro Hockey League Russell Cup Champions on Saturday evening at the Centre in Temiscaming. The Titans took the title in front of a jam packed rink by winning 5-1 over the Durham Roadrunners and sweeping the best of 7 series by scores of 4-0, 6-0 on the road and finished it off at home with 6-1 and 5-1 wins.

The Titans in fact swept all four playoffs series. First round victim was New Tecumseh Civics 2-0 in a best of 3.

This was followed by a three game sweep over their Northern Quebec rivals, the Ville Marie Pirates.

Then on to the North Division final versus the Bradford Bulls and a 4 game sweep to move on the finals against Durham Roadrunners, South Division Champions.

During their sweep of the playoffs, the Titans outscored their opponents by a 86 to 19.

The Titans impressive season included going undefeated at home through regular season and playoffs for a perfect 28-0 on home ice and ending the season with a won loss record of 49-2.

The Titans led the league in scoring but in the playoffs, it’s the defense that wins Championships. A solid performance by Eloi Bouchard in goal - who played every playoff game - backstopped a stellar defense that was very tough to break.

It’s also worth mentioning that this is the second Russell Cup in the Titans 10 year history. The last time they hoisted the Cup was again in the Centre in 2015.
