TBirds' Baas impresses at Ontario Summer Swimming Festival

He broke seven of his previous club records and finished top ten in six of his events

Owen Baas, from the CT33 Thunderbirds swim team competed this past weekend at the 2019 Ontario Summer Festival.

This Swim Ontario sanctioned event was hosted by the Markham Aquatic Club.

This championship event draws in teams from the across the province and provides competitive long course swimming with timed finals for Swim Ontario swimmers aged 13 and under.

Owen Baas, 10, competed in seven events over the course of three days. His event schedule included 200 metre Free, 100m Fly, 100m Back, 400m Free, 200m Medley, 200m Back and 50m Fly.

He broke seven of his previous club records and finished top ten in six of his events. Baas posted significant personal best times in all seven events.

Members of the Thunderbird team who have qualified for provincial and national events will continue to train throughout June and July Jesse Hammond qualified to compete at the 2019 Summer Ontario Youth Junior Championships June 27th to June 30th at the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre in Brantford. Team members Jenna Wall, Trael Daly Stevens, Sam Denomme and Evan Kilroy will be attending the 2019 Summer Ontario Swimming Championships June 27th to 30th at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre. Later in the summer, Trael Daly Stevens and Samuel Denomme will travel to Calgary, Alberta to compete at the 2019 Canadian Junior Championships July 24th to July 29th at the Respol Sports Centre.

North Bay coaches Pierre Simard, Penny Lecour, Hillar Lainevool and Elle George said they were pleased with the results from the meets and the success and growth of all swimmers.
