Unfortunately due to lower than expected registrations we have made the decision to cancel the 3x3 basketball tournament taking place as part of the inaugural Sunshine Games.

The event was scheduled to take place in downtown North Bay, August 27 and 28 and was being organized through the Nipissing Lakers, Basketball Canada and Vision Sports and Entertainment.

The 2016 Senior Beach Nationals will be taking place as planned at the Canor Molson Sand Centre.

“It is disappointing that we have had to cancel the 3x3 event," stated Bryan Crawford, Canada Basketball Senior Director of Operations who came up in June for the initial tournament press conference launch.

"Unfortunately there were just not enough registered teams for us to proceed with hosting the tournament as planned," added Crawford.

"We will take this opportunity to evaluate and explore alternatives for hosting an event in North Bay in the future.  Thank you to our partners at Nipissing University, the City of North Bay and Vision Sport and Entertainment for their efforts in this venture."

Lakers Athletic Director Vito Castiglione said it’s too bad an event like this couldn’t proceed as planned.

“It’s unfortunate we had to cancel this event, it had potential to be a lot of fun and good for the community, Nipissing University and Basketball Canada,” Castiglione said.

“We will continue to support Basketball Canada, the North Bay community and work with them in the future to host quality events."
