A day after having a six-game winning streak snapped Saturday, the Timmins Rock kicked off another run Sunday as they topped the Powassan Voodoos 6-1 in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action in front of over 700 fans at McIntyre Arena.

Josh Dickson got the Rock going near the six-minute mark of the opening period as he converted on an early man advantage opportunity.

Josh Anderson then put the home side up by a pair at 9:07 as he notched his second goal of the season.

Down a skater early in the middle session, the Rock struck shorthanded thanks to Riley Brosseau at 2:05 to go up by three.

Powassan would get on the board a couple of shifts later thanks to Carson Lux’s first, however Timmins came right back and tacked on a trio of tallies to take a 6-1 lead into the intermission.

Derek Sequin’s team-leading 10th started the outburst before Dickson added his second of the day while teammate Darcy Haupt added to the offensive onslaught.

Both sides played to a stalemate in a scoreless final frame as Timmins cruised to the victory.

Rock goaltender Tyler Masternak made 12 saves to win his sixth straight start.

Christian Cicigoi started for the Voodoos and suffered the loss allowing five against on 22 attempts while Joe Vrbetic handled 20 of 21 in 27 and a half minutes of relief.

With the result, Timmins moves past Powassan into second spot in the NOJHL’s East Division standings with 23 points on an 11-5-1-0 record.

In defeat, the struggling Voodoos have now dropped four straight and six of seven as they fell to 10-6-1-0 overall.

The Voodoos were without top offensive defenders Cameron Moore and Jacob Peterson-Galema who did not go on the road with the team this weekend.
