The North Bay Peewee Stingers took part in the annual Greater Niagara Peewee Select Baseball Tournament this past weekend.

Playing in 35+ degree weather, the Stingers were hot in more ways than one.

In their first game Friday evening the Stingers jumped out to a 13 run lead after the first inning against Toronto Playgrounds enroute to a 19-6 victory.  Jordan Kennedy got the win with relief help from Mosquito call up Masen Wray.

Game two on Saturday morning saw North Bay defeat the eventual champion, Halton Hills Hawks 8-7.  The teams exchanged the lead on several occasions, but the Stinger offence came through when it counted. Owen Wray and Cam Harwood were sharp as they handled the pitching duties for the North Bay squad.

With the thermometer reading 38 degrees and a humidex of 45, the Stingers took on Newmarket in a game that determined 1st place in pool play.  The Stingers had timely hits and rode the pitching of Brett Richardson and Caleb Sanders defeating the Minor Rep team 7-6. The victory seeded North Bay second overall after round robin play in the 12-team tourney setting up the semi-final game versus third seed Hamilton West Mountain Cougars.

The semi-final was another closely contested game as the Stingers fell behind 2-0 in the first but rallied to tie the game in the 4th.  The Cougars eventually took a 6-3 lead into the bottom of the 7th, only this time another Stinger rally came up one run short, losing a heartbreaker 6-5.

The coaching staff is very proud of the boys for their efforts and continued development.

The Stingers are back in action August 9th in Bracebridge and August 16th at home against the Muskoka Hornets in a home and home exhibition series.

Team members include: Owen Wray, Joe Pavone, Cam Harwood, Caleb Sanders, Brett Hummel, Dallas Landriault, Calean McAuliffe, Will McCharles, Masen Wray, Jordan Kennedy and Brett Richardson. The team is coached by Greg Richardson, Doug Sanders, Troy Kennedy and Scott Wray.
