Dr. Garry Shulman, a local sport psychologist, will talk about ‘Strengthening Communities Through Sport’ at the Sport North Bay presentation Wednesday Sept. 22 at the West Ferris Arena auditorium.

The presentation starts at 7 p.m.

All sporting organizations, coaches, players, officials and parents are urged to come out and listen to Dr. Shulman.

Sport North Bay was formed in April of this year. The association’s mission is to bring together schools, clubs, health, charitable, business and individual representatives dedicated to enhancing sport, recreation and healthy active living opportunities for all citizens of this community. Board members elected last April have been meeting since that time, putting a face to the objectives initially presented under the framework of the constitution.

The board members are Karen Cobb, chairman; Dave Saad, first vice chair; Heather Chambers, second vice chair; Peter Handley, treasurer; Jill Faulkner, secretary; and Fred Bailey, Glenn Cundari, Randy Edmonds, Paul Best and Allison Herst, directors. Sharon Kitlar, Manager Recreation and Leisure Services Parks, Recreation and Leisure Services, is the city liaison, ex-officio member.

“We want to have a strategic plan in place and we will be asking the public for help,” Cobb said. “The board can’t do it alone and we want people in the community to become involved. Sub-committees will be formed and our plan is to have everybody involved in the process.

“We want the people to be inspired to collectively use their knowledge and strengths for the benefit of children, youth and families in our community. Let’s all get together and help North Bay the best place to play sports in this province,” Cobb said.

An update of the association’s activities will be made at Wednesday’s presentation.

Sport North Bay wishes to thank the Ministry of Tourism and Recreation and the City of North Bay, Parks, Recreation and Leisure Services Department for their support in presenting Dr. Shulman.
