The North Bay Spartans U14 capped off their season finishing with a 2 and 2 record at Provincials in London, Ontario this past weekend.

The Spartans played their first of four games Friday night against Penetanguishene. The score went back and forth for the majority of the game, however, the Spartans were able to score late to take a one point lead and hold on to win 30-29.

Game two saw the Spartans play a team from Norfolk County.  The Spartans started strong and were able to keep a lead all game, playing great defense and moving the ball well on offense; the Spartans won 40-25. After winning their first two games they matched up against IEM Spartans who had the same 2-0 record.

The winner of this game would advance to the championship game on Sunday. The game started fast as both teams scored early and often.  The Spartans trailed by four at half. In the second half, the Spartans started slow and IEM was able to take a lead into the fourth quarter where the Spartans made a strong comeback but fell short losing 48-40.

The loss moved the Spartans into the Bronze Medal game where they would play a team from Stratford.

The Spartans played the best game that they had played all year against a competitive team. The Spartans trailed by three points at half and found themselves down 13 points with about five minutes to go. After a time out, the Spartans made a big come back using a full court press to make the game close.

Unfortunately, the Spartans would eventually lose the bronze medal game by one point.

Each player improved immensely and the team’s performance at Provincials was a great way to end the season. The Spartans team would like to thank their Sponsors (Bruman Construction, Demarco Lucenti Insurance, Shoppers Drug Mart Lakeshore location, and Martyn Funeral Home). The Spartans hope to continue building the game of Basketball in our community and look forward to next season.
