Skyhawks gain win, tie (new)

The North Bay Skyhawks picked up a win and a tie on their two-game Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League road trip on the weekend.

Both their games went into overtime. Friday, the Skyhawks and Northern Michigan Black Bears played to a 1-1 tie and Saturday, Dave Frawley’s second goal of the season was the winner in OT as the Skyhawks downed the Soo Thunderbirds 3-2.

Matt Dias opened the scoring late in the first period for the T-Birds before Evan Dube and Joey Imbeau netted second period power-play markers for the visiting Hawks.

Ryan Maunu, on a power-play goal, tied the game in the third and Frawley won it at the 2:06 mark of overtime.

In other Skyhawk news, the club added defenceman Alex Ward from the British Columbia Hockey Junior League and released Trent Pope. Ward is 6’5” and was raised in St. Luc, Que.

And tonight, which is Halloween, Dustin McCrank, Stoan Pacey and Marc Andre Rizk will be at the Fire Hall on Princess Street West from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. to hand out Halloween and Skyhawk treats to the youngsters.
