Skyhawks blanked in season opener

The Sudbury Northern Wolves scored three times in the first two periods en route to a 3-0 victory over the North Bay Skyhawks in the season opener for the North Bay squad.
The Sudbury Northern Wolves scored three times in the first two periods en route to a 3-0 victory over the North Bay Skyhawks in the season opener for the North Bay squad.

The bad blood from last year's playoff series appeared to spill over to the new season as the game included a line brawl where goalies Darren Rowlandson and Dominic Leveille squared off with less than 10 seconds left in the second period. Both were ejected from the game.

Colorado product Ryan Douglas was forced to make his NOJHL regular season debut in the third period keeping the Northern Wolves off the board and stretching his shutout streak to four periods after blanking the Seguin Bruins in exhibition play last Friday.

In a strange twist, the Northern Wolves used forward Nick Heins in goal for the final period and nine seconds, sharing the shutout with Rowlandson.
