A total of 18 teams battled for 6 NOSSA championship banners on Friday at the Omischl Sports Complex.
In the Senior Boys "A" Division, the NDA champion Chippewa Raiders hosted Notre-Dame from Sudbury in a tremendous match that went to extra time and then decided on penalty kicks. The Raiders could not outscore the Sudbury squad and ended up with a 1-0 loss.
The Senior "AA" Division matched Superior Heights from the Soo with St. Charles of Sudbury. The Soo team was able to outlast their opponents and won 3-0.
The "AAA" Division saw St. Joseph-Scollard Hall against their rivals St. Mary's of the Soo. The two teams met a couple of weeks ago in the Nipissing Invitational finals where the Bears were victorious. The Soo team was well prepared and motivated as they won the NOSSA banner with a 3-0 result.
In what might have been the most entertaining match of the day Friday, the Franco Cite Patriotes hosted the Chippewa Raiders in the Junior "A" Final. Cheers from the many local supporters were heard throughout the complex as the two teams went back and forth until the final whistle which gave the Patriots a 4-2 win over the Raiders.
In the Junior "AA" finals, more local success was experienced by the Widdifield Wildcats as they overpowered St. Charles with a 3-0 victory. In the Junior "AAA" final the St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Bears were in a tough contest against St. Mary's. The Soo team was able to score three unanswered goals to win the championship.
