Senior fastball tourney continues (new)

Alcorn, who played several years in the senior men’s league, was named honourary chairman for this year’s event.

Alcorn was one of the original organizers of the senior fastball league in the middle 1980s and also played and coached.

His widow Betty and daughters Jane, Linda and Patti as well as their families took part in the ceremonies.

Sixteen more games were played at Troy, Johnson, CFB and Centennial Fields and the action picks up Saturday morning and afternoon with a full slate of action at the four fields, starting at 8 a.m. and continuing until 4:30 p.m.

The first round of playoffs will be played at Troy and Johnson Fields starting at 6 p.m. Saturday night.

Thirty-two teams are entered including Cold Spring Cats, third-place finishers in the Ontario masters championships in July and Oshawa Ravens, who have won the ‘AAA’ title in North Bay three times including last year.

Playoff action continues Sunday morning at Troy and Johnson.

The A final will be played at 2:30 p.m. followed by the AA final. Both games are at Troy Field.
