In true Rodney Dangerfield fashion, local powerlifter Kevin Ferris went back to school to compete against a field of eight Junior and Sub-Junior (23 and under) athletes at this past weekend's Capital Classic 2 meet at Carleton University in Ottawa.

The 48-year-old Masters 1 93 kg lifter from the Valhalla Powerlifting Club was able to secure 2nd place, despite a couple of close misses that cost him 15kg in his total.

Kevin hit PRs in both the squat and deadlift and also set a new meet PR for his total.

His lifts were as follows:

Squat: 202.5kg/446lb (video)

Bench Press: 127.5kg/281lb

Deadlift: 230kg/507lb (video)

Total: 560kg/1,232lb

Ferris was helped out by his sister Carolyn and his coach Steve Lariviere.

His next event will be the Toronto Super Show on June 2 at the Metro Convention Centre.
