The Powassan Voodoos saw goaltender Owen Say make 33 saves on the night to record his Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League-leading 30th win of the season, a 3-1 decision over the Cochrane Crunch, Saturday night at Tim Horton Events Centre.

Collecting the lone tally of the opening 20 minutes was Powassan’s Ryan Mills as he notched his 18th of the season at 6:46 as he scored for a fifth straight outing.

The second period play saw Mike Iatridis notch his first NOJHL goal at 16:41 to even things up for the Crunch.

However, the Voodoos came right back moments later when Joe Whittet picked up his 20th of campaign to put the guests back in front after two periods of play.

In the third, the Voodoos got some insurance from rookie defenceman Finn Acton-Rinaldo as he secured his first league goal at 2:46 in what proved to be the evening’s final tally.

Brett Shawana chipped in with two assists in the road triumph.

Say did the rest in reaching the 30-win plateau for Powassan who are closing in on the NOJHL’s regular-season title.

With the Voodoos win and a 6-3 Timmins loss to Hearst, the Voodoos now hold a four-point lead on the Rock with two games in hand.

Zach Wickson faced 42 shots in defeat for Cochrane.

The Voodoos finish off their final road trip of the regular season Sunday afternoon as they take on the Hearst Lumberjacks. Puck drop is set for 4 p.m. at the Claude Larose Arena.
