Flint Firebirds head coach Ryan Oulahen advised the team today that due to personal and family reasons he will be leaving the position effective immediately.

"For tonight and tomorrow night’s game, Greg Stefan will be in the head coach role, working alongside associate coach Darcy Findlay and assistant coach Garrett Rutledge," said Paul Krotz, Director, Communications for the Canadian / Ontario Hockey League.

Oulahen, 33, is a long-serving former player and assistant coach with the Battalion both in North Bay and Brampton. The left winger scored 18 points over three seasons with the club. He was drafted by Detroit Red Wings in round 5, #164 overall in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

Oulahen's Firebirds are 0-7 and in dead last in the OHL this season.

"I have decided to step down as Head Coach of the Flint Firebirds for personal reasons and my family. I appreciate the ongoing support of the Flint Firebirds," says Oulahen on the team's webpage.

"The Flint Firebird organization wishes Ryan the very best in his future endeavours," added the team.

The Firebirds are scheduled to play the North Bay Battalion in Flint tonight. (Friday)
