Podium and Top Ten Finishes for Gymtrix Athletes at Provincial Championships

Five members of Team Gymtrix competed at the Womens Level 7 & 8 Elite Provincial Championships and the Mens Provincial Championships in Windsor last weekend claiming both podium and top ten finishes against the best in the province. 

Men's

On the Mens side, Jo-zef Mathieu from North Bay Gymtrix brought home a pair of medals.

Twelve-year-old Mathieu competed in the Level 3 (Under 13 yrs) category putting up some of the best scores of the year when it counted most.  He hit the podium in the Vault event and walked away with a Silver medal. He went on to claim another medal finishing in the Bronze place in the Horizontal Bar event. Mathieu also had a top 10 finish on Rings finishing in 7th place on that event. Overall, Mathieu finished in 17th All Around after competing against 43 top Ontario gymnasts.

Teammate Jack Mah competed in one of the toughest categories of the championship meet. Thirteen-year-old Mah had a top ten finish with a 5th place in the Horizontal Bar event in the Level 3 (13 years and older) division. Mah placed 14th Overall (all six event scores combined) in a group of 40 athletes.

Owen Armstrong competed in his first Provincial Championships and grabbed a couple of medals. Ten year old Armstrong competed in the Level 1 (10-12 years) division and faced a field of 47 athletes in his category. Armstrong was the top winner in the Horizontal Bar taking the Gold medal. He also brought home the Bronze medal in the Parallel Bars event and finished 17th overall.

Womens Level 7 & 8

In the Womens events, Level 8 gymnast Emily Mah (age 16 years and over) had a top ten finish in the Vault event with an 8th place. Mah was also 11th  place in the Floor Exercise event and ended the competition with an impressive 12th place Overall. 

Fourteen-year-old Tessa Tripodi competed in the Level 7 (14 years) division and also had a top ten finish. Tripodi was 6th place in the Balance Beam event.

Provincial Championships for the Women are now split over several weekends.  This weekend coming (April 12-14), Kali Champagne and Abby Champagne have qualified and will be competing in the Level 6 Provincial Championships in London Ontario.
