Playing golf with Canada’s Olympic Golf Star

“We got to meet her and she signed autographs.  It was unbelievable she’s so humble, her sister is her caddie you won’t meet nicer people than that.  Hopefully she stays that way.”

Guy Denis says he won’t soon forget a round of golf he played on August 5th at the Ottawa Hunt Club.

Denis, who is a member at the Osprey Links Golf Course in Callander, was a guest at the Ottawa area club that day when the golf course held an Olympic send off event for Canada's young superstar female golfer Brooke Henderson.

“My brother is a member there and were able to go as guests,” said Denis.

“We got to meet her and she signed autographs.  It was unbelievable she’s so humble, her sister is her caddie you won’t meet nicer people than that.  Hopefully she stays that way.”

The 18-year-old Henderson is from nearby Smiths Falls and the Hunt Club is her home course.

Henderson has taken the golf world by storm winning the Women’s PGA Championship and comes into the Olympic Golf Tournament as the number two seed in the Olympic tournament which wraps up on Saturday.  Halfway through the event Henderson sits in third place, only two shots behind the leader.

Denis was amazed at how humble she was but he was also overwhelmed to see how good she is first hand.

“The hole we played with her she hit an eight-iron 172 yards,” stated Denis.

Now Denis admits he’s having a tough time staying focused now that the women’s Olympic golf tournament has begun.

“Now that I got to meet her and wish her good luck I’m watching her hole by hole and checking my phone for updates.”
