North Bay's Peter Topolie helped guide a Canadian baseball team to a whole new level.

Topolie is an assistant coach on the Ontario Blue Jays 17 and under team which won the USSSA World Series on Saturday with a 12 – 8 victory over the Texarkana (Texas) Longhorns at the Carl Albert Sports Complex in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

The Blue Jays became the first ever Canadian youth team to capture a major American World Series or National Championship by winning the 2005 17 and under event.

"It has been a very rewarding two years working with these 10 elite players culminating in an American World Series Championship and we are the only Canadian Amateur team to accomplish this," Topolie said in an email to BayToday.ca.

Last year Topolie coached the Ontario Blue Jays 16 and under team which won the Michigan district and went on to represent the region in the Mickey Mantle World series where the team finished 1-2.
