It was a weekend full of wins for the Nipissing Lakers varsity men's and women's hockey teams as the two OUA teams started their seasons.

The Lakers men opened with a 4-1 win on Friday over Ontario Tech and then followed up with another 4-1 win over Ontario Tech on Saturday night.

Jacob Collins scored two power-play markers in the win with singles going to second-year forward Gael Lubwele and Matt Paul.   Goaltender Brent Moran, who was in for both Lakers wins, made 40 saves in Saturday's victory.

Meantime, on Saturday night the Nipissing Lakers varsity women's team opened with a 5-3 win over the Laurentian Voyageurs. Goal scorers were not available for the homecoming game which took place at a noisy Memorial Gardens.

The Lakers women are back on the ice October 17 when they travel to Sudbury to face the Voyageurs again.
