Omischl strikes silver

Shenyang, China -- Weather conditions limited training, but it was enough to land aerialist Steve Omischl of North Bay, Ont., a silver medal in World Cup freestyle ski action Saturday.

Omischl collected his third medal in eight starts this year to move into third in the men's overall aerials standings.

"I'm pleased just to be back on the podium, without having (sufficient) training and jumping 85 percent of my potential," said Omischl, 26, of his score of 242.52.

"If I jump 100 percent, no one's going to touch me," added Omischl, admitting Jeret Peterson of the United States is having the kind of season Omischl had when he won the overall men's aerials title last season.

Omischl, with 350, is a distant third, just behind Ryan St. Onge of the U.S.

"It's going to be hard to catch Jeret, but second is definitely within my grasp."

The aerialists resume action next weekend with another World Cup in China.
