SAUZE D'OULX, Italy (CP-AP) -- Steve Omischl of North Bay, Ont., and Kyle Nissen of Calgary led Canada to a 1-2 finish in a World Cup aerials event Saturday on the course for next year's Turin Olympics.

Omischl finished with career-high score of 256.09 points for his first victory of the season after coming in second in the previous two events, both in China.

"I can't even explain how happy I am," said the North Bay native.

"I'm just on top of my game, relaxed and calm."

Omischl was third after the first round and moved into the lead with a quadruple-twisting triple somersault.

"It was anyone's game, but my second jump was by far the best of my life," said Omischl.

"Olympic site, I put it down, best-ever I've ever performed and I'm about to drink a lot of wine."

Jeret Peterson of the United States finished seventh but retained his lead atop the aerials standings with 596 points.

Omischl is second in the standings with 530. The defending overall aerials champion, has gathered momentum this season with the lead-up to next month's World Championships. This was his fifth medal of the World Cup season.
