Four teams from West Ferris Ringette Association participated in the Northeast Region Championships in Sudbury this past weekend, bringing home two silver medals.

Having received the news of the passing of Agnes Jacks on the opening day of the tournament, the teams played their games during the weekend in her memory. There
was a true feeling of loss amongst the players when they found out. They wanted to win for her.

The West Ferris Novice B Ice Capps almost made it and captured one of the silver medals with their strong performances against teams from Timmins, Iroquois Falls,
Valley East and Walden. The final was a see-saw battle with both teams taking the lead on various occasions. With the Ferris crew leading by two goals, two back-to-back penalty calls were made, in a game that had seen very few penalties called to this point, only to see the same number of goals scored to bring the game to overtime. Another penalty called in the opening minutes of overtime against the WFRA handed the loss to the Ice Capps and the gold medal to Timmins.

Despite the loss, coach Sue MacDonald was proud of the fine effort put forth by her squad. "They worked hard as a team. It's hard to lose it this way but they have
nothing to be ashamed about. They played well"

Silver medals seemed to be the order of the day. The Petite team, coached by Yvon Belanger, also captured second place.

Also in action at the tournament were the WFRA Tween and Open teams. Both were successful in the round-robin portion of the tournament. Unfortunately, neither
team advanced to the final.

This tournament marks the end of the ringette season.
