NOSSA results - big day for Newton, Simard, Gawinski(Updated)

The track wasn't the best in Sault Ste. Marie, but it was still good enough for West Ferris Sprinter Adam Newton to defend his 100 metre NOSSA Senior Boys sprint title with a time of 10.89.
The track wasn't the best in Sault Ste. Marie, but it was still good enough for West Ferris Sprinter Adam Newton to defend his 100 metre NOSSA Senior Boys sprint title with a time of 10.89. Second place went to Alonzo Clark of White Pines in Sault Ste. Marie with a time of 11.04. Both will be going to OFSAA in Windsor next week and both will join the University of Windsor's track team this fall.

Newton also took home the 200 metre crown once again with a time of 22.6 and once again beat his rival from the Soo, Alonzo Clark who finished second.

Newton and a pair of hockey players captured gold in the Senior Boys 4 X 100 metre relay. Newton who anchored a team including, Logan Butler, Dan Weber and Josh Ranger finished with a time of 44.47. St. Mary's from the Soo finished in second spot.

Hopkins wins 3000 M

In the 3000 Metre Senior Boys final, Scollard's Adam Hopkins finished first with a time of 9:28.50.

Stubbert hurdle and 200 M champ

Scollard's Stephanie Stubbert also had a solid day at the track. She won the Senior Girls 100 M hurdles event with a time of 15.89. She also captured gold in the 200 M Senior Girls event.

Widdifield girls run wild in 400 M

In the Senior Girls 400 M dash the duo from Widdifield captured the top two spots. Leesa Church came first with a time of 1:00:61, while teammate Keira Brown placed second at 1:01.14.

Church continued her winning ways, taking home the gold in the Senior Girls 400 M hurdles with a time of 1:07.49, way ahead of second place finisher Alexandra Nursall of Lo-Ellen who finished well behind at 1:12.86.

Keira Brown was victorious though in the 800 M event blowing away her competition with a time of 2:28.5.

Ranger wins 400 M

In the 400 Metre Senior Boys event West Ferris runner Josh Ranger outlasted St. Joseph-Scollard Hall's Justin Digiglio with a time of 51.38 as North Bay athletes finished 1-2.

Couchie gets NOSSA record

Also Chippewa's Tyler Couchie broke the Midget Boys 400 metre record with a time of 56.95.

Simard gets double gold

It was another big day for Algonquin's Tanya Simard. She took home top spot in the Senior Girls Triple Jump with a distance of 10.93 metres. She also captured NOSSA gold in the Senior Girls Long Jump with a distance of 5.04 metres.

Gawinski wins four events!

The Steeplechase was a great event for North Bay athletes as two locals grabbed top spots in the Senior Boys and Girls events. Marc-Andre Paulin from Algonquin won the Boys 2000 M event with a time of 6:36.25, while on the girls side, Widdifield's Kali Gawinski grabbed first with a time of 5:29.60 in the 1500 M Steeplechase.

Gawinski added another couple victories onto her belt. She won the Girl's 1500 M with a time of 5:10.3, and beat out Abby Callahan from Algonquin to win teh 3000 M event as well.

Widdifield also won the team event in the 4 X 400 metre relay with an impressive time of 4:17.39, well ahead of the Sir James Dunn squad who finished more than two seconds behind with a time of 4:19.92. That meant more Gold for both Keira Brown, Kali Gawinski and Leesa Church who joined Heather Cobbledick in the victory.
