It’s back to the drawing board for the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League.

A new schedule will be announced in the near future following the meeting Saturday regarding the future of the Sudbury Northern Wolves.

As it turned out, they have no future as the proposed sale to Sturgeon Falls businessman Gerry St. Onge was not approved and the club will fold.

It was hoped the sale would go through and the franchise would have moved to Sturgeon Falls.

But such was not the case as the North Bay Skyhawks exercised their right to veto the deal and they did.

The league is now down to seven teams.

The Skyhawks, meanwhile, open their main training camp, by invitation only, Monday night at Memorial Gardens.

The club will hit the ice from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. and camp continues Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 24-25, at the same times.

Trappers, Athletics open camp

Two other teams, the Trappers and the Athletics, have training sessions at Pete Palangio Arena Monday.

The Trappers hit the ice for the next four days at PPA from 8 p.m. until 10 p.m.

The club has an exhibition game Saturday at Memorial Gardens against the News Liskeard Cubs, starting at 1 p.m.

They are in Sudbury Sunday to play the Capitals in another pre-season game starting at 1 p.m. at Countryside Arena.

They are back at PPA Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 30-31, 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 1-2, at Memorial Gardens, 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

They open the Great North Midget League season Saturday Sept. 11 and Sunday Sept. 12 in Sault Ste. Marie.

Their home opener is Saturday Sept. 18 at the West Ferris Arena against Sudbury. Game time is 7:20 p.m.

The Athletics continue camp this week in preparation for their season opener Friday Sept. 24 in the annual league showcase tournament which is being held in Timmins.

The Athletics play Timmins and Onaping Falls Friday and Sudbury Saturday.

They are in the Sault for three games the following weekend. They are at home Oct. 16-17 for three games against Sudbury.
