North Bay’s Michael Silveri scored the game winner at 3:31 of the third period as the Trenton Golden Hawks defeated the Georgetown Raiders 2-1 in the Dudley-Hewitt Cup final.

For the Golden Hawks, it’s their second straight DHC championship, this time as hosts for the Central Canadian Junior ‘A’ championship.

The Hawks also boast Powassan’s Lucas Brown, who was part of the championship team last year that won the Dudley-Hewitt Cup in Kirkland Lake.  Brown led the Golden Hawks with 30 goals this season.

Silveri, who was named the Hawks Player of the Game in the final, joined the Golden Hawks in an off-season trade from the Powassan Voodoos, where the North Bay native played his first two junior ‘A’ seasons.

The Voodoos, who won the NOJHL championship, were eliminated in the Dudley-Hewitt Cup semi-final 2-1 by the Georgetown Raiders.

It was revenge for the Golden Hawks, who lost in the OJHL final in seven games as the Georgetown Raiders captured the Buckland Cup.

Silveri, Brown and their Golden Hawks teammates will now head just down the road to Cobourg for the Royal Bank Cup championship which begins next Saturday.
