Saturday morning, the North Bay Youth Volleyball Club U14 Lakers rolled into the Ontario Volleyball Association Bugarski Cup tournament full speed ahead, never looked back, and took home the gold medal.
After having picked up the first 3 wins by defeating Storm Fire 2-0 (25-17, 26-24), Galaxy Comet 2-0 (25-15, 25-18), and Markham Unity 2-0 (25-19, 25-10), the U14 squad headed to the semi-final game to face Georgetown Impact. The girls were not showing any signs of slowing down, as they defeated the Impact 2-0 (25-22, 25-15).
The gold medal game proved to be a very exciting contest, as witnessed by the cheering crowd at hand! Facing Markham, the Lakers won the first set 25-18. However, the Markham team was not letting up, and the Lakers dropped the second set 16-25.
With parents and friends cheering loudly on the sidelines, the Lakers stepped it up and won the third set 15-12, bringing home the gold.
