Competing in Division 4 the fifth seeded North Bay Spartans U15 girls captured a silver medal at this weekend’s basketball Ontario Cup being held in Oshawa. The girls opened the round robin with a tight loss to the fourth seeded Etobicoke Rams but bounced back well in the afternoon to knock off the top ranked Halton Huskies to secure a spot in Saturday’s semi-finals.
Awaiting the Spartans in the semi-final were the second seed Ancaster Magic who had gone pool play undefeated. A complete team effort accompanied by a strong defensive showing allowed the girls to complete the upset in a thrilling overtime finish. The win setup a rematch with the Rams. Despite a great effort the girls fell three points shy of the championship in a 31-28 defeat.
The coaching staff would like to thank the girls along with their supportive parents for an incredible year and continued commitment and engagement throughout the year.
