In an email sent to BayToday.ca, Nipissing Women's Volleyball coach John Jeffries said that he has been fired.

Jeffries coached 8 seasons with Nip U and guided the Lady Lakers to an OCAA gold medal back in 1995, and a silver 1994.

Jeffries, who's been coaching volleyball for more than 30 years told the media he will release a statement regarding the issue Friday.

Vito Castiglione, the Manager of Sports and Recreation at Nipissing, feels its a issue that should be left between the school and Jeffries.

"It's an internal issue," said Castiglione.

"We decided to move on in a different direction."

No word on when a replacement will be announced.
