A focussed Adam Newton once again broke a personal record with a world class time of 10.37 in the 100 meter sprint Wednesday afternoon at the NDA Twilight track meet held at Cundari field.

The West Ferris sprinter, who finished with a 10.48 first place time on the weekend at the John Rowland track meet in Etobicoke, has now broken his personal best twice in the past five days.

"That's huge, that's huge, that's huge," Newton kept repeating after the race behind St. Joseph-Scollard Hall.

"I didn't feel all that fast, but then the timer flashed the time and I said 'pardon'!" said the elated sprinter who's backing up his title of fastest kid in Canada.

Newton's previous best time last season was 10.70, in a year in which he won both NDA and NOSSA titles before bowing out in the preliminary rounds of OFSAA.

However Wednesday's Twilight event was hand timed and considered two tenths of a second off electronic timed events. Newton will get a chance to be timed electronically on May 14th at the Nipissing Invitational Track Meet at St. Joseph-Scollard Hall; the same track he raced to that personal best on Wednesday. More than 700 athletes from across Northern Ontario will compete.

Still the North Bay track star who will join the University of Windsor track and field team next fall hopes to continue to improve and looks very much like a favourite not only in NOSSA but OFSAA as well.
