The 43rd Annual NDA High School Hockey Tournament faced off this morning.

Algonquin, Chippewa, West Ferris, and Widdifield are participating while the St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Bears team dropped out of the tournament in the 11-team tournament which is taking place at the Gardens and West Ferris arena.

The tournament final will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.

Despite the one drop out, Tournament Convenor Anthony Loreto is pleased with this year’s field.

“43 years of any tournament is a long standing tournament anywhere you go,” noted Loreto.

“It’s well attended with 11 teams and teams were on the waiting list.”

Loreto says the NDA Tournament has also partnered with the North Bay Food Bank.

“In lieu of admission to this tournament, there will be donation boxes for food and/or money at both Memorial Gardens and West Ferris arena,” said Loreto.

“Any support would be greatly appreciated.”

This morning the West Ferris Trojans edged Manitoulin 3-2 at West Ferris arena.   St. Benedict beat Algonquin 3-2 at West Ferris and St. Charles edged the Chippewa Raiders 3-2 at Memorial Gardens.

The Widdifield Wildcats play their tournament opener at 6 p.m. at Memorial Gardens Thursday night.
