NDA Hockey - Patriotes and Bears wear pink for the cause

The Franco-Cité Patriotes and the St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Bears hockey teams used pink laces, pink tape and wore pink jerseys in support of breast cancer in the first annual “Game In Pink” which was played on Monday night in Sturgeon Falls.

The Patriotes did not disappoint the large home crowd as they scored four third period goals on their way to a 4-0 victory. Martin Strasbourg, Mathieu Ouellette, Jacob Proulx and Jean-François Daoust scored for the home side. Ricky Guay and Mathieu Paquette shared the shutout in goal for the Patriotes while Michael Carr was also outstanding in suffering the loss for the Bears.

“We had many great sponsors help us out with the game,” said associate coach Denis Beaudry.

“The Bears also raised some money and contributed to the amount. It was an emotional night and I think the effort put into the game was well worth it,” added Beaudry.

The game was preceded by a ceremonial puck drop by Franco-Cité teacher Denise Coulombe who is currently battling breast cancer. In all, both schools raised more than $3500.00 towards breast cancer research.
