NDA Hockey: Bears slide by Raiders in season opener (GALLERY)

Bears win 3-2

The St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Bears fought off a feisty Chippewa Raiders squad in a 3-2 Bears win in the season opener of the NDA hockey season at Memorial Gardens Saturday afternoon.

Tyler Moore and Kyle Anderson exchanged goals for the Bears and Raiders respectively in the opening period.

In the second period, William Monette, who started the year with the NOJHL's Cochrane Crunch, scored on a breakaway which gave the Bears the 2-1 lead.

Ashton Long got the equalizer for the Raiders.

The Bears broke the 2-2 tie with an unusual goal that bounced off a couple of players and past the Raiders goalie Markus Lazarus that made it 3-2 after two periods.

Cameron Sutherland was credited with the go-ahead tally for the Bears.

In the third period, the Raiders had a push including a number of chances during a late power play but the Bears were able to fend off the Raiders for the win.
