The St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Bears built up a commanding 3 goal lead after two periods and hung on for a 4-2 victory over the Widdifield Wildcats in NDA hockey action Wednesday night at Memorial Gardens.

The Bears got on the board early as Tom Wagner opened the scoring at the 1:14 mark of a penalty filled first period.

In the second frame Cats get some great chances but were stoned by Bears goalie James Demarco, including a great pad stop on a nice deke by Nick Cliche.

With less than 6 minutes left in the second the Bears add to their lead as Travis Kivimaki put a loose puck by a sprawling Ryan Cote. The powerplay goal gave the Bears a 2-0 lead.

Less than 3 minutes later Dan Demarco's backhand eludes Cote and it's 3-0 Bears after 2 periods of play.

In the third the Cats get a key early goal as Jason Ethier scores 1:12 into the period.

The Bears reply near the 6 minute mark as Tyler Hummel scores a goal that went off a leg in front and past Cote to make it 4-1 Bears.

The Cats make it closer again at the 13:06 mark of the final frame as Scott Britton scores on a beautiful deke to make it 4-2 which ends up being your final score.

In the only other NDA hockey action Wednesday night, the Algonquin Barons defeated the West Ferris Trojans 4-1.
