In NDA senior girls basketball, the ESC Algonquin Barons upped their league record to 3 and 0 with a 39 - 21 victory over the West Ferris Lady Trojans at the West Ferris gym on Tuesday night.
Tanya Simard was the dominant player on the night, scoring 24 points and adding 9 rebounds. Mila Paris added 6 points, while Catherine Senecal added 4 points. Laura Bucknell led the Trojans with 6, and Stephanie Bennett and Ashley Handley chipped in 4 points each.
"It was a tough victory," said Barons head coach Tim Lowe.
"The Trojans played a very aggressive defense and really made us uncomfortable on offense, they forced us into committing too many turnovers, especially in the first quarter." he added.
"Once the dust settled, we started to play defense and in the 2nd quarter, we held them to a single point. Our offense is generated off our defensive intensity and we just didn't have that in the 1st quarter."
The Barons are in tough with their next game as they meet the heavily favoured Chippewa Raiders in a repeat of last season's final on Thursday at the Chippewa gym. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
