For the second year in a row Russ Moyer is getting a tryout with an American Hockey League franchise - one step below the National Hockey League.

Moyer recently signed with the Odessa Jackalopes of the Central Hockey League and was invited to attend the Bridgeport Sound Tigers camp. Both the Jackalopes and the Sound Tigers are affiliated with the New York Islanders.

Last season Moyer played a pair of games with the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins and was an invite to the 2008 AHL champion Chicago Wolves camp last summer.

"It will be a good experience again and I learned you have to be in a lot better shape and I'm more prepared physically," said Moyer who has been training on and off the ice with local Boston Bruins prospect Matt Marquardt.

The graduate of the Ottawa 67's and the CIS Acadia University Hockey program played his first year of professional hockey last season where he scored 6 goals and added 14 assists in 50 games with the Muskegon Fury of the IHL.
