Zach Major broke a 4-4 tie for the game-winner as the North Bay & District Nipissing Reader Minor Peewee AAA Trappers edged the Nickel City Sons 5-4 to capture the NOHA Minor Peewee AAA Title in Sudbury on Saturday night.

The Trappers rolled through the playoff unbeaten with an impressive 6-0 record defeating the Sudbury Wolves in the semi-finals and the Sons in three straight in the best-of-five NOHA finals.

Jesse Lefebvre, Grayden Robertson-Palmer, Masen Wray and Nolan Newton had the other goals for the Trappers, who also captured the NOHA title against the Sons in the Major Atom AA championships last spring.

Trappers head coach John Couch says the players heightened their grit awareness and showed a no quit attitude.

"It has been a fantastic season of steady measurable growth and improvements for all of us, the players and coaches,” said Couch.

"Twice over the final series we found ourselves down, with only a few reminders from the coaches about our mindset and how we can create a swing in momentum, it brought them around both times.

“We all bought into the team first attitude which in the end was the difference maker.”
