The North Bay Midget AAA Trappers won their 8th game of the season and 3rd in their last 4 as they defeated the New Liskeard Cubs 6-2 on Sunday afternoon at West Ferris arena.
The Sunday win improved the Trappers record to 8-10-0-0-1, and move the locals into a tie for 5th in the Great North Midget League.
Matthew Petersen-Galema scored twice for the Trappers; both in the second period.
Jake Staples, Jake Ibbitson, Fraser Duhaime and Tyler Peters had the other goals for the Trappers.
Trappers head coach Mike Reise thought this was a good rebound game for a Trappers squad that lost 3-1 on Saturday night at home to the front running Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves.
"We came out strong earning a 2-0 leard after one period and we just kept it going," said Reise.
"We got a little sluggish in the 2nd period - probably our worst period of the weekend - and a couple of mistakes cost us.
"We wanted to play a disciplined game and give our power play a chance to make the difference.
Even though the Trappers only allowed 1 power play goal against this weekend, Reise felt it was their 5 on 5 play that was the difference.
"The boys are buying in, playing a team game and it's making the difference," said Reise.
"That and our 2 goalies stepped up, means that we’re not giving just away points to anybody."
Next up for the Trappers is another 3 game weekend, starting off with a game up in New Liskeard again on Friday, home to Sudbury on Saturday and then home to Nickel City on Sunday.
