The North Bay Midget AAA Trappers gave the Sault Ste. Marie all they could handle.

The North Stars; the countries #1 ranked Midget AAA team, built a 3-0 lead in the first period but the Trappers battled back with 4 second period goals to trail the Stars 5-4 after 40 minutes.

However, the Stars pulled away in the final frame scoring 4 times as they defeated the hometown Trappers 9-5 at West Ferris arena Sunday afternoon.

Tyler Peters recorded 3 goals - all in the middle frame to make the game interesting. Peters leads the GNML with 45 goals.

Nathaniel McLeod and Adrien Guenette had the other goals for the Trappers. Steven Leveque added 3 assists in the cause.

Matt Pinder, Devin Shell, and Jaren Bellini had 2 goals each to pace the first place North Stars.

The loss drops the Trappers record to 13-17-0-0-1 on the season.

"The third period, we still had our chances, but the North Stars came on strong and showed us why they are nationally ranked," noted Trappers head coach Mike Reise.

"We tied it up early in the third , but couldn’t keep it going. We’re still making little mistakes that cost us and the boys are starting to really realize it. We have to limit the odd man rushes and make sure that on our back check we pick up the right guy."

The Trappers next game is Friday, February 1st when they visit the Timmins Majors as part of a 3-game northern road swing which takes them to Kapuskasing on Saturday and Kirkland Lake on Sunday.
