Local Gymnast raising the bar

Seamus O’Donoughue, a 16 year old athlete with the Apollo Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Team competed in Newmarket last weekend at the 1st of 3 Provincial Cup qualifying meets. The competition saw over 180 athletes from all over Ontario compete.

Seamus, a grade 10 student at West Ferris SS was registered in the Level 4, 13+ category. O’Donoughue started the meet on parallel bars and finished his routine with an 8.5 for his efforts placing him in 6th. High bar was next, and after an incredibly high layout flyaway dismount, Seamus was 4th of the 15 athletes competing. O’Donoughue also received a 4th place finish on floor exercise.

O’Donoughue and his teammates will be focusing their training on preparation for the 2nd qualifying meet being held on Kitchener at the beginning of February.
