Lakers women win marathon shootout; men fall to McGill

McGill scored four times in the third period to defeat the Nipissing Lakers 6-1 in Montreal on Saturday night.

Jacob Hickey had the lone Lakers goal on a third period power play.

The loss is the Lakers (7-15-1-2)  fifth straight as they continue to hold onto the eighth and final playoff spot in the OUA East. 

Meantime, the Lakers women's team pulled off a low scoring 1-0 shootout win over the University of Western Mustangs on Saturday afternoon. 

After going through a scoreless 60 minutes and overtime, the two teams went into a marathon shootout which was finished off when Ashley Taciuk beat Mustangs goalie Carmen Lasis in the eleventh round of the shootout and the only goal of the game.    

Chantelle Sandquist made 37 saves in regulation and followed up with holding off 11 Mustangs shooters.  

The win improves the Lakers record to 11-5-1-1 as they sit in fourth spot in the OUA.  

The Lakers women are back in action Sunday afternoon when they take on Windsor.
