This past weekend the North Bay Youth Volleyball Club U13 Lakers team won silver at the OVA McGregor Cup (Trillium E Division) in Newmarket.

The Lakers finished first in their pool after round-robin play, defeating Caspian Crush and PVC Explosion.

They went on to defeat Titans Oceanus to earn a spot in the semi-finals against Storm Twister of Aurora.

The Lakers won in three sets and then faced Barrie’s Georgian Cubs Hurricanes in the finals.

The final game was a nail-biter between these two well-matched teams, and the Lakers took silver after two well-fought sets (28-30, 21-25). The first set kept spectators on the edge of their seats as the Lakers answered every Cubs’ point with one of their own pushing them to 30 points before the Cubs won a two-point spread to take the set.

With heartfelt coaching, the Lakers maintained their focus throughout the tournament and proudly came home with silver medals.
