Riding a three game win streak and earning their first win on home ice Friday, the Nipissing Lakers women's hockey team is looking to make a quick climb up the standings.

The Lakers welcomed the UOIT Ridgebacks to town Saturday and posted a huge offensive day, scoring a season-high five goals en route to a 5-0 shutout victory and their fourth win in as many games.

After a bit of a tentative start in the first, Nipissing hit the board first when Hunter Mosher found the back of the net for her first of the season.

Ava Keis and Marilyn Fortin picked up the helpers on the game's opening goal and despite dominating in chances and shots on net, that goal was the only tally of the first frame.

The middle frame mimicked the first, as it was a slow start for both teams with just a few chances at both ends of the ice.

Late in the period, things picked up as the Lakers tallied twice in 16 seconds.

First, it was Jetta Derenoski picking up a loose puck on the power play and tucking it in.

Zosia Davis and Katelyn Heppner drew the assists on the second goal.

Shortly after that, Fortin picked up her second goal in as many games, redirecting a great pass by Mosher into the corner of the net.

Both players picked up their second points of the night, as did Keis who grabbed the other assist on the goal.

The Lakers kept pouring it on, scoring their third goal in less than two minutes.

Derenoski had a wide-open net and made no mistake after a centring pass from captain Kaley Tienhaara landed perfectly on Derenoski's stick.

Bronwyn Bolduc had the other assist, as she had the initial chance earlier in the shift.

Nipissing added to their lead in the third with Derenoski completing the hat-trick, roofing a shot to make it 5-0 six minutes into the final period.

Danika Ranger picked up the win in net, finishing with 22 saves, while the Lakers fired 31 shots at the UOIT net.

The Lakers (8-3-) are now 6-1 in their past seven and remain at home when they host the York Lions Friday at 4:30 p.m.

That game is the first in a double-header in support the mental health awareness, put on by Nipissing University and Lakers Athletics.
