Lakers Varsity Women's hockey team beats Lancers 3-1.
Lakershockeynewsept2015

In what was their most complete game so far this season, the Lakers Varsity Women's hockey team made it three straights wins,

Thanks in large part to the trio of Sam StrassburgerBronwyn Bolduc and Kaitlyn McManus who continue their hot play.

The trio combined for six points and two goals as the Lakers dominated the Windsor Lancers on their way to a 3-1 victory Friday night in North Bay.

The Lakers out shot the Lancers 38-22 and built up a 3-0 lead, as they cruised to another victory – their first at home this season.

The Lakers opened the scoring as Taylor McManus fired a point shot off a Windsor defender and into the back of the net for the eventual game-winner.

The goal, McManus' first in the OUA, was the only goal in the first two periods, despite Nipissing peppering 29 shots towards the Lancers net through 40 minutes.

Things picked up a bit in the third, with three goals being scored, including two more from the Lakers.

Bolduc picked up the insurance goal on a nice 2-on-1 with Strassburger, who saucered a nice feed to her linemate who made no mistake.

Kaitlyn McManus picked up the additional assist on the goal.

Nipissing would put the game away with a third goal – a power play marker by Kaitlyn McManus, matching her sister's earlier tally.

Bolduc and Strassburger earned assists on the goal, giving that line two points each and 13 points combined through three victories so far.

Bolduc and Strassburger lead the OUA in points.

Rochefort wasn't very busy until midway through the second, but finished with 21 saves, seeing her shutout ruined late in the game on a nice shot by Lancers forward Danielle Butler.

The Lakers, looking to make it a perfect weekend, are back in action Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.

The visitors will be the Western Mustangs, who are quickly becoming – or maybe already have become – the Lakers biggest rival.

The game is also the annual Pink The Rink game, in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
